Graceful Displays

Greater Reston Arts Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to enrich community life by promoting involvement and excellence in contemporary visual arts. In pursuit of this mission, GRACE provides a year-round program of visual art exhibitions, education programs for all ages, and special events.

FARAWAY NEARBY

All artists residing in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia are invited to apply.

Additionally artists residing elsewhere who have exhibited at Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) or in the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival are also invited to apply.


Juror: Dale Martin Lanzone is currently the president of International Public Art Marlborough, one of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries.

Over the past 12 years, Mr. Lanzone has developed and managed many large-scale, commissioned public art projects with a wide range of artists including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Red Grooms, Dennis Oppenheim, Beverly Pepper, and others. Mr. Lanzone has also curated major sculpture exhibitions at the Central Gardens in Monte Carlo, Monaco; Park Avenue, Bryant Park, Waterside Park, and on Broadway in New York, New York; at the Jardins du Palais Royal, Paris, France and the Washington Avenue Greenway, Miami Beach, Florida. He was previously the director of the United States General Services Administration's Cultural and Environmental Affairs programs where he led the national public art program for 10 years. In addition, he administered the GSA's Historic Preservation Program and served on the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the Presidents' Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Federal Council on the Arts and Humanities.

PROPOSALS Greater Reston Arts Center is requesting proposals for exhibitions for its main gallery space for periods of approximately 4-6 weeks.

Proposals will be accepted from artists, independent curators, or arts organizations.

GRACE is particularly interested in encouraging community interaction with its exhibitions.

All exhibitors in the main gallery are expected to participate in at least one community program (other than the opening reception).

Curators or artists should briefly describe ideas such as artist talks, forums, Weekend Workshops or other educational events as well as promotional or outreach strategies to recruit diverse or new audiences. If selected to exhibit, staff and volunteers from GRACE will assist artists in developing and implementing their program.

SOLO EXHIBITIONS at the Hyatt’s Market Street Bar & Grill:

Call for submissions for 2009 - 2010 solo exhibitions at the Hyatt Regency Reston's Market Street Bar and Grill

Greater Reston Arts Center in collaboration with the Hyatt Regency Reston invites new and/or renewing GRACE member artists to apply for a solo exhibition at the Hyatt's Market Street Bar and Grill in Reston Town Center. Market Street Bar and Grill offers attractive spaces for displaying artwork where hundreds of patrons visit daily.

Each exhibition is on display for approximately three months complete with an opening reception the first Monday of the exhibition. All entries will be selected based on the quality of work and suitability for the restaurant venue by the Greater Reston Arts Center's exhibition committee.
