Version 2.0

Howdy folks.  We've implemented some changes, as you can see.

First off the Weekly Updates section now includes updates about new exhibition space/opportunities in the DC area for artists.  Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) has quite a bit going on.  I'd recommend taking a look:

www.restonarts.org

They're willfully being our guinea pigs for this column, as of yet fully defined.  Let us know what you think -- Chris@thefifteenbeforefifteen.com  Subject Line: Weekly Updates

Secondly after much debate we've decided to make Journal 15 bi-monthly.  This way people have a chance to catch up on the galleries and artists and we have a chance to catch our breath.  We want good quality articles and that means we can't rush.

Thirdly there is still an open call for those who wish to contribute to the writing side of things here at Journal 15.  Editorialists can submit their work to us, again at Chris@thefifteenbeforefifteen.com.  Care to comment on an editorial or article?  Send us an email -- we'll post it in our Letters to the Editor section.

Amanda Hirsch owner and operator of the great DC blog  http://www.creativedc.org/  has just posted an interview that Chris gave via email.  Check this and a whole lot of other DC art-related news when you get the chance.  There's a lot to look at, and this is a great forum to learn about what is going on in and around DC.

We're currently working on a way for our artists to publicize upcoming events in their world.  The difficulty is in finding a way for this information to be provided "cleanly" so that individual artist's events don't get swallowed up by a swarm of information.

That being said, take a look at Patricia Zannie's website:  www.patzannie.com  as she has an upcoming show at The Foundry Gallery.  Here's a little blurb about what she's doing:

Patricia Zannie, an instructor at the School of Art & Design at Montgomery College for nearly eleven years, will be presenting a solo exhibition of her award winning collages at the Foundry Gallery in Washington, DC, entitled "MOTHER NATURE & FRIENDS" from APRIL 29th through MAY 31st 2009. You are all invited to the opening reception on Friday, May 1st from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Gallery Hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 12:00 – 6:00 pm. The exhibition will focus on the exploration of humanity as part of nature. Some collages are whimsical, others provocative, each visually commenting on the significance of mankind’s behavior in a natural setting.

As for what's next -- well we could tell you but we'd have to kill you.  We're kidding, we're kidding.  We're moving ahead, of course.  Artists are joining daily which is very good to see.  Feedback is always very much appreciated.  Post tax season we'll be going with version 3.0, or at the very least version 2.5.  Stay tuned.

And when's the last time you visited The Torpedo Factory?  A lot of good artists out there -- a lot of inspiration to be had.  We spent a few hours there recently and had some great conversations.  www.torpedofactory.org
